how it started

One of my friends bought her first Nikon D90. Those things are expensive! She thought, "If I am going to spend this much money on one camera and lens, it better be worth it!"

We spend so much time and money on our hobbies, but why not fuel those passions with service? We discovered that there were many members of our community who had never had their picture taken. When you think of underserved communities, your first inclination is to provide them with food and shelter. The basics. The necessities. But to live, people need much more than just the basics.

And so, UNC Lens was born.

Our Mission

To capture, preserve and share the cherished moments and stories of local community members and families through photography and creative writing. In doing so, we aim to ensure that every member and family of the local community will have the means to recollect these cherished memories.

HOW IT WORKS

High-quality portraits of UNC students are taken by a Lens photographer for a donation. 100% of the donation is used to provide similar services to local families who may not have access to high quality photoshoots; they receive free prints, frames, albums, etc. By doing this, we want to provide every community member with the ability to preserve beautiful memories. UNC-CH Lens is where passion meets service.
